Five brass bells under a pagoda roof, hung from a bagua.
In feng shui the wind chime is a metal element object, and metal is the element that moves things along. Hung where air passes, a doorway, a window, the end of a corridor, it keeps a space from going stale and marks the threshold with sound, so whatever crosses it is met on the way in. The bagua above the roof does the guarding: eight trigrams around the yin and yang, the oldest map of balance the tradition has. A second, smaller bagua hangs on the cord below and catches the wind. Between the bells sits a single marbled bead in amber and red.
Chosen for a front door that opens straight onto the street, a balcony, or a hallway that catches a draught.
Placement: outside or just inside the front door, or by a window that opens. Not over a bed.
