Cinnabar is the fire-red stone of the Chinese tradition, long worn to guard vitality and keep good fortune close. Its colour alone was considered protective, the red that meets whatever the day brings.
The hulu (葫芦) is the calabash gourd of Chinese tradition, kept for centuries as a vessel that draws in good fortune and does not easily let it go. This one is carved across its whole surface, the pattern catching the light as it turns.
For anyone gathering rather than spending themselves, worn on an adjustable braided cord.
