A dragon's claw closed around a glass bead, in antique-finish steel.
The dragon and the pearl are the oldest pair in Chinese art. The dragon chases the pearl across temple roofs and robe hems, and the pearl stands for the thing most worth having: wisdom, or fortune, or the one thing a person will not give up. Here the chase is over and the claw has closed. The talons are cast in the round and the collar above them is beaded like the grip of a ritual vajra.
The bead is glass, in red or black, on a plain box chain. Worn under a shirt or over a t-shirt, and often bought for a son or a younger brother who has just moved out of home.
