A glass gourd filled with gold leaf, standing on a black base.
The hulu (葫芦) is the calabash gourd, narrow at the neck and wide in the belly, and it has been kept in Chinese homes for the simple reason that whatever goes in is hard to get back out. It is the flask the immortals carried, and in feng shui it is hung or set down to gather good fortune and keep it, and to take in what should not stay. This one is filled with loose gold leaf that shifts when the gourd is moved, a red blessing label on its belly and five coins strung on a red tassel at the neck.
It comes boxed in red, and is bought for a housewarming or Lunar New Year as often as for the buyer's own hall table.
