Peach Wood Trigram Plaque

A peach wood plaque carved with one of the eight trigrams.

Feng shui reads a house as a square, and a floor plan with a corner cut away, an L-shape, a recessed entry, is said to be missing the part of life that corner governs: the north-west for the father, the south-west for the mother, the east for the eldest son, and so on around the compass. The remedy is old and plain. A plaque bearing that corner's trigram is hung where the corner should be, so the shape is read as whole. Peach wood (桃木) is the wood for the job, the same wood the New Year door charms were cut from.

Usually bought after a floor plan has been looked over, for a new build or an apartment that turns a corner.

Placement: on the wall at the missing corner, inside or out, with the trigram that matches that corner's direction: Qian north-west, Kun south-west, Zhen east, Xun south-east, Kan north, Li south, Gen north-east, Dui west.
