A pine bough leaning off a white stone, two birds on the branch.
The leaning pine is the oldest picture in Chinese landscape painting, a tree that bends to the wind on a cliff face and keeps growing anyway, which is why the pine (松) has stood for endurance and a long life. The stone under it is the mountain, cut down to table size. Together they are the scholar's view, brought indoors for a room that has no view of its own.
The stone is cast in resin, so it is light enough to move on your own, and the foliage never needs water. Made for a hallway console, a sideboard in a room that gets guests, or a reception desk with a clear metre beside it.
