The Pixiu (貔貅), wealth guardian of Chinese feng shui, carved in cinnabar.
Cinnabar is the fire-red stone of the Chinese tradition, long worn to guard vitality and keep good fortune close. Its colour alone was considered protective, the red that meets whatever the day brings.
A winged creature said to feed on gold and silver and, having no way to release what it takes in, to keep every bit of fortune it draws toward its wearer. Carved above it sits a lotus bead, knotted into the cord.
