Qilin Ding Incense Burner

A tall tripod ding in dark clay, a qilin sitting on the lid.

The qilin is the beast that appears when a good ruler is in power, and walks without bending the grass under it. Kept on an altar or in a hall it stands for a household at peace, and for children arriving, the wish it was most often carved for. The ding under it is the bronze offering vessel of the early dynasties, here in stoneware with a pierced lid glazed a mossy green, two scroll handles at the shoulders, and legs long enough to lift the coil clear of the table.

Chosen for an ancestral table, a meditation room, or a first home that would like to become a family home.
