A plain agate tablet, orange and red in bands, on a beaded cord.
The plain tablet, the wu shi pai, is a Chinese jade form given to travellers and to the young leaving home. Its face is left uncarved on purpose: wu shi means no trouble, no incident, a blank surface for a life you would like to stay uneventful. The agate here is banded straight through in orange and red, so the plain face is not plain at all. The stone does the decorating.
Strung long on black beads with a run of blue and yellow, it is worn over a jumper rather than under a collar. One to send with someone leaving for a year away.
