Solar Nodding God of Wealth

Caishen, the god of wealth, nodding on the dashboard.

Caishen (财神) is the figure Chinese households welcome on the fifth day of the new year, when shops reopen and firecrackers go off to call him in. He is shown here as he is on new year prints, round faced and laughing, a gold ingot in one hand and a ruyi sceptre in the other, the winged hat of a court official on his head. Sold as the wealth god of the five roads, the one who covers every direction money can arrive by. In red on a gold base, or in gold on a red one.

A solar cell in the base keeps the head nodding while there is light on it, no battery, and an adhesive pad fixes him to a dashboard or a counter. Bought for a new car, a shop opening, or as a new year gift for someone starting a business.
