Twelve metal tubes on a turned wooden disc, made to ring in the wind.
In feng shui a chime is a metal element object, hung where the air has gone still or where a threshold needs marking: a front door, a balcony, the path to a back gate. The tubes are graduated so a gust runs down through them rather than striking all twelve at once, and the note is longer and cleaner than a chime with a few thick rods. Chimes like these hang at temple eaves, where the ringing is taken as a small offering carried off on the wind.
Hung outside a front door, on a veranda, or by a window that is left open through summer.
Placement: a doorway, veranda or balcony, or the west or north-west of the home where the metal element sits. Not over a bed.
