Twin lotus, 并蒂莲, is the name for two blooms on one stalk, and it has long been the picture Chinese families reach for when they mean a devoted couple. The pods carry the second half of the meaning: full of seeds, they stand for children and a house that keeps growing. Two gilt birds and a dragonfly rest among the stems, and the whole thing is tall enough to hold a corner on its own.
